Future Leaders Academy
In 2023, The Building Bridges Project launched the Future Leaders Academy to help young people build the skills to address polarization.
Through this program, Jared, Nate, Josh, and special guest speakers meet with high school students in their Government classes and lead meaningful lessons, discussions, and projects focused on promoting civility.
Students learn about the history of polarization in the United States and practice forming constructive arguments on both sides of an issue. They also visit the State Capitol during the legislative session and complete a community service project.
Field Trip to the Washington State Capitol
On March 27th, 2025, the Future Leaders Academy (FLA) went on a trip to the Washington State Capitol in Olympia!

The morning started with tours of the Governor's office, the Treasurer's office, and the Secretary of State's office, where they registered to vote and got to meet with Secretary of State Steve Hobbs.

Students then watched Senate Resolution 6827 - which they helped write - as it was considered on the floor. They listened to supportive floor speeches by the sponsor, Senator John Lovick (D), and Senator Shelly Short (R). The students were then recognized by the President of the Senate after final passage!

They then heard from Representatives Skylar Rude (R) and Lauren Davis (D) about their bipartisan work in the legislature.
The trip concluded with a Q&A with Senator Lovick.
